EQUIPped for Maths - Developing learning for maths in Early Years

FULLY BOOKED

A highly interactive programme providing two days of taught workshops and action planning with support in your setting to transform provision for maths. The sessions are led by Rob Nicholson, will be fun, hands-on and provide participants with opportunities to develop their understanding of:

  • The mathematical learning opportunities available in the natural world and outdoor environment
  • The concepts involved in shape space and measure
  • Using songs, rhymes and stories to support mathematical learning
  • Developing mathematics from young children’s schema and interests
  • Developing characteristics of learning through mathematics
  • STEM- science, technology, engineering and maths for very young children
  • Counting, calculating and mental arithmetic in the EYFS
  • The early learning goals for maths
  • How to intervene and scaffold learning in mathematics

Target Audience:

This project is directed at schools and settings that are keen to improve their interventions in maths and help children develop mathematical thinking through memorable first hand experiences and child-initiated play and exploration.  Participants must commit to attend both sessions as well as action planning, research and implementation between the taught days.

Day 1:    8th February 2018 (9.30 to 3.00)

Day 2:   17th May 2018 (9.30 to 3.00)

Support will be provided in the participants’ settings.  EQUIPPED for maths follows the EQUIP (Early Years Quality Improvement Project).
