Teaching for Mastery Effective Lesson Design

This project will equip you to identify and understand the key features involved in designing lessons in a teaching for mastery context, see them in practice, and create materials to use in your class/school.

Over the two terms, participants will have an opportunity to observe three of our Mastery Specialist Teachers, co-create materials and then develop practice back in school.

Audience:  this project is aimed at schools who are implementing a teaching for mastery approach to their mathematics lessons. Schools are expected to enrol two teachers each (and both teachers must attend all sessions).

Day 1:    6th November 2018 – Park Walk Primary School, Chelsea (9.30-15.00)

Day 2:   29th November 2018 – Kingsley Primary Academy, Sutton (9.30-15.00)

Day 3:   1st February 2019 – Chesterton Primary School, Battersea (9.30-15.00)

In between the sessions, participants are expected to develop their own practice around lesson design, work closely with their in-school co-participant and keep a reflective journal. The project lead will visit some of the project schools to support and evaluate practice.

Great feedback from last year’s project includes:

“I have become a lot more confident understanding mastery. Our whole lesson structure has changed and I feel like a completely different maths teacher.”
