Equity Lead (SEND focus)

 

Leadership role within the LLME Community

Time allocation: 12 funded days (4 internal, 8 external)

Location: Regional (with some national collaboration)

Start date: 1st September 2026

 

The Equity Lead plays a key role in embedding the principle of equity across all aspects of Maths Hub work, with a particular focus on supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to access, engage with, and enjoy mathematics.
 
Working as part of the Maths Hub LLME Community Lead team, the Equity Lead contributes to the design and leadership of hub-wide LLME community activity and ensures the SEND perspective is integrated across phases and programmes. The role involves collaborating with Local Leaders of Mathematics Education (LLME), supporting both their internal development and their external work with schools.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Recent and relevant experience in teaching mathematics and leading inclusive practice in early years, primary, secondary, or post-16 settings
  • A deep understanding of the barriers to learning faced by pupils with SEND in mathematics
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and facilitation skills
  • Capacity to think strategically and contribute to hub-wide planning and improvement.
 

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience in designing or delivering professional development with a focus on equity or SEND
  • Experience in resource development and/or research-informed practice.
